Comments from Students

“I have been a member of Habibi Dance group for almost 5 years and attend three classes a week. I'm fitter, healthier and have a fantastic social life since joining the group. We get plenty of opportunities to dress in wonderful costumes and put our efforts at class into practice at shows and events. I would recommend belly dance to anyone as all ages and sizes can participate. The sense of freedom and achievement dancing brings is wonderful.”

“I used to be very shy and quite withdrawn, I needed to lose weight and went to the gym but didn't like the atmosphere so I needed to find something I enjoyed. I tried a few different classes and although I loved the dancing I found the teaching methods poor, I found the Habibi Dance classes and haven't looked back since. Ann built my confidence and taught me to dance and I am now a soloist in their shows, and it is sheer bliss!”

Having lost weight I was encouraged to keep the weight off by doing some form of regular exercise, but when could I fit it in with three young children to look after? Sweating it out in the gym didn’t do it for me, I’m afraid, and I found every excuse going not to go.
Then I was invited to a dance class incorporating Turkish and Egyptian belly dancing with a difference – it was FUN! I was able to wear beautiful, bead-encrusted costumes (much more flattering than Lycra!!) twice a week with like-minded friendly girls, of all ages, who made me feel very welcome, even though I had gone on my own.
That was six years ago! Looking back I have learned so much. I have made new friends and the dancing twice a week keeps me fit and healthy, so much so my mother felt encouraged to come and she’s a young 60 something!! The good news is it’s never too late to start!
